Employee Assistance Program

Sometimes all you need to do is talk it over. A professional counselor can help. For these situations, just a few visits can get you back on your feet again.

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a short-term counseling and consultation service, which is offered free to International employees and their eligible family members.

The EAP can help you cope with personal problems on a confidential basis. All counseling services are administered through Optum Health, which is a separate entity from our health insurance providers.  No information on individual employee EAP use is shared with International management, unless the employee expressly asks for this to be done, and signs a release to this effect (in matters of addressing employee misconduct, for example).

Just talk to our UAW EAP coordinator; you may discuss your situation confidentially and privately, and they will find an appropriate local provider for your needs.  (Or, alternatively, you may call the administrator of our program, Optum Health at 1-800-977-7909, and they will find a local provider in their database.)

You do not have to wait for a crisis to call the EAP. Sometimes the best time to call is when you just need to talk to someone, before a problem becomes severe or overwhelming.

The EAP provides assistance for a range of issues, including:

  • Emotional problems

  • Marital and family counseling

  • Substance abuse

  • Interpersonal conflicts and stress

  • Legal issues and questions (also available through Hyatt Legal)

  • Financial and credit concerns

The UAW EAP Coordinator also has reference material, available to copy or borrow, on various issues including but not limited to:  substance abuse, stress and anxiety, workplace and domestic violence, and verbal abuse.
