Region 3 Quarterly Meeting

by Don Steffen

The Region 3 winter quarterly meeting was held at the Sheraton hotel in Indianapolis on Dec. 7, 2006.  Those attending from Fort Wayne were Dan & Sharon Alter, Sandra Poling, Don Steffen, Jeanette Gaffer, Barb Parrott , Gracie Ley, and Dorothy Wolfe.

Dick Merrin who welcomed us and introduced the guests called the meeting to order at noon.

We then all enjoyed a buffet hot luncheon.

His assistant, Larry Moppet, introduced Mo Davison, Region 3 Director.  Mo gave us an update on the November elections and what action we might expect as a result of the elections.  He also gave us an update on the current events happening in Region 3. He stressed that we must work with the elected officials to ensure that retirees and workers benefits are retained.

Elmer Blankenship then gave us an update on the current events happening at the “Alliance for Retired Americans.”

Dick Merrin then drew 5- $50 tickets from the 50/50 drawing.

A 2006 U.A.W. Christmas ornament was then given to all attendees.  Mo Davison sponsored the ornament.

There were approximately 175 attendees from

 Region 3.

The meeting was adjourned about 1:45.

Just as we were leaving the meeting, we were informed that there had been a 30-vehicle pile up on I-69 at Markle due to icy roads and blowing snow.

Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed.  We decided to avoid the traffic backup on I-69 by exiting early at Gas City and then heading north thru Upland, Hartford City and Markle but also ran into backed up traffic there.  The trip back to Fort Wayne took us 1 1/2 hours longer than normal but we made it back safely thanks to Dan’s safe driving.

Insurance:

New Aetna Card for Medicare Retirees:

International Truck and Engine Retiree’s who are on Medicare received a new Aetna card this month.

(Or should have). If you did not receive a new card call Aetna @ 1-800 435-2969 and request one.

It is important that you use your new Aetna card and NOT your Medicare card for all Medical coverage.

Aetna will now be handling both Medicare and Aetna paperwork on your medical coverage.

If your provider says you are not covered because of this call Aetna @ 1-800-635-2095 and let the customer service representative know that a provider is not accepting the plan. Aetna will then contact the provider and assist in getting it set up properly.

You must also use the new ID on your new Aetna card. It starts out   MEB*******.

This has caused some early confusion with providers. Many providers (mostly in Florida) have had problems because it comes up as you are enrolled in an HMO. YOU ARE NOT IN AN HMO. You still have Medicare coverage as before. Some providers are requesting you pay the bill right away. This should not be necessary; the provider needs to contact Aetna so the bill can be submitted properly. If the bill isn’t submitted by the provider to Aetna then it will not be counted toward your annual $200.00 deductible.

Also, if it is not run through Aetna the approved Medicare charge may not have been applied so everything will need to be reversed.Insist that the bill be sent to Aetna.

If you paid a bill because the provider insisted on it, get a signed receipt from the provider of this bill to send to Aetna so it can be credited toward your deductible.

If you still have problems contact Dan Alter @ 260-918-4094 (Ft. Wayne number).

Dependent Eligibility Audit:

Recently International Truck and Engine Retiree’s who are covered under the Health Security Plan were mailed

aDependent Proof of Eligibility” letter.

The cover sheet needs to be filled out and a copy of a verification document , example:( last years tax return, with money amounts blacked out) attached.

Failure to mail in by February 15, 2007 will result in termination of coverage for covered dependents.

This must be mailed in by February 15, 2007  to:         Secova

1608 Highway 88 West, Suite 211,

Dept. International,

Brick, New Jersey 08724.

If you have questions you can contact Secova @ 1-888-886-2583

If you need further assistance contact Dan Alter@ 260-918-4094
