Greetings Retiree’s and Spouses:

As you have read by now an agreement was reached during the recent negotiations between the UAW and International Truck and Engine after an 8 week strike. These were very difficult negotiations and the active workers had to make some sacrifices in order to get an agreement and protect their jobs.

In the new agreement a portion of future cost of living raises will be kept by International Truck and Engine to offset some of the health care costs of ACTIVE workers.

In the past some of future cost of living increases were used to provide a yearly bonus for retirees. During these negotiations the UAW was not able to retain the bonus for retirees. So for the life of this contract (3 years) there will NOT be a yearly bonus for retirees.

Fortunately, the most important benefit we retirees have is still intact. That being our Shy Supplemental Trust Health Agreement.  Your Health Benefits remain as before thanks to the Shy Agreement.

Hyatt Legal Plan

During the strike the Hyatt Legal plan was not available for retirees.

Effective January 1, 2008 the Hyatt Legal Plan is back in effect for UAW International Truck and Engine Retirees. If you wish to use this service the phone # is 1-800-821-6400

Many types of coverage’s are included such as:

Wills, Real Estate, Family Law, Debt matters, Traffic and Criminal, Injury and Insurance, Small Claims assistance and many other things.

Some of the coverage’s are for consultation only, some is partially covered, some fully covered.

When you call Hyatt Legal 1-800-821-6400 they will ask your SS# and then ask what type of matter you need assistance with. Hyatt will give you a case # for each item to be taken care of. They will advise who the participating law firms in your area, or will send you a list in the mail. You can also get a list if you log into http://www.legalplans.com/.

It’s a New Year and your $200.00 deductible starts over again.

Health Plan Yearly $ 200.00 Deductible for those on Aetna Medicare (over 65)

Do NOT pay any doctors or providers any money until you get your paperwork from Aetna telling you what THEY applied to your deductible. Aetna will apply the negotiated prices first and will send to you Aetna explanation of Benefits (EOB) how much if any has been applied to your deductible. Aetna will have the amounts you owe posted under the deductible column of the EOB. Also they show a running total at the end of the EOB telling you when all of your deductibles have added up to the $ 200.00 limit.

Some retirees think if they pay bills to the first few providers of the New Year that they have met their deductible for the year. This is not the way it works…Aetna must be the one telling you who to pay and how much.   If you have any questions give us a call.

Health Plan Yearly $ 200.00 Deductible for those not yet 65.

For those retirees who are not yet 65 you also have a $200.00 per year deductible in addition to $322.00 co-pay @ 80/20 for a total outlay of $522.00 per year not including office visits which has a $1620.00 per year deductible. You also need to wait for the Aetna Explanation of Benefit (EOB) from Aetna BEFORE making any payments. Aetna will apply the negotiated rates so you know how much to pay. In the example below the patient owes $78.08 to complete the $200.00 deductible for 2007.

See example below:

Note the column in the middle that states “Your Deductible”

In this case you would pay the provider $78.08 because it is part of your $200.00 yearly deductible.
