Greetings Retiree’s and Spouses:

May Retiree Joint Chapter 305 and Chapter 2911 Luncheon

We were privileged to have UAW Region 3 Director Mo Davidson as our feature speaker. Mo spoke of the many difficulties facing the UAW because of corporations trying to take benefits away from UAW members and retirees.

The UAW has been successful in retaining the insurance benefits at many corporations over the past several years.

Mo also reported that the labor outlook and the job situation in this country have continued to go downhill for the last 7 years. On the positive side the UAW has been successful in organizing and signing up new locals to join the UAW including several Dana plants in the last few months.

Mo gave much credit for the UAW being able to retain the health insurance benefits for many of the UAW represented retirees to our great Region 3 Retiree Representative Brenda Upchurch. Brenda has taken many cases to court and won them for our brother and sister fellow UAW retirees in Indiana and Kentucky.

Brenda also attended our retiree luncheon and reminded us of our duty to vote for the persons that support us retirees.

Asst. Region 3 Director Larry Moffett also attended the luncheon, along with Area 4 Chairman Dick Merren.

We had 87 persons attending the luncheon and the food was very good.

4-Day , 3-Night outing at the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center, Black Lake, Onaway, Michigan, for Region 3 RETIREES and their SPOUSE on September 2,3,4,and 5, 2008.

The cost per person will be $185.00 per person, plus $15.00 per person if you choose a side trip, for a total cost of $200.00. Region 3 will pay all other costs for buses, food and lodging at Black Lake. Each person will need money for meals on the way to and from the Center on September 2nd and the 5th.

Chapter 305 is allowed 4 delegates and Chapter 2911 is allowed 2 delegates. Each person who attends is considered a delegate.

For those interested in applying for the annual Region 3 Black Lake trip Please call Barb Parrott @ 419-542-8150 for Chapter 305, or Dan Alter @ 260-918-4094 for Chapter 2911 retirees.

You MUST be a dues paying retiree to be eligible.  Availability is limited.

We have an increasing number of retirees who request a handicap room. There are very few of these rooms, so please let us know if you really need a handicap room.  Deadline to sign up for the trip is August 6, 2008 with check.

Insurance:

Those on Medicare

$200.00 annual deductible on our health insurance.

As pointed out in past bulletins you MUST read the Explanation of Benefit from Aetna to find out to who and how much you should pay your deductible amounts. If you’re not sure call Aetna Medicare at 1-800-635-2095 and talk to one of the representatives. They can tell you exactly who to pay and how much.

If you have difficulties call Dan @ 260-918-4094 and I will assist you. I have a 3-way phone, so you and I together can discuss the question with Aetna Medicare at the same time. It is necessary to have all 3 of us on t he phone at the same time because of the HIPPA laws protecting your privacy, you must give the OK before any medical information can be discussed with anyone other than yourself.

For those not yet on Medicare

You also have a $200.00 per year deductible which works exactly the same as mentioned above, however; in addition you have an additional $322.00 per 80/20 co-pay. Your total out of pocket annual cost is $522.00 per year.

This does not include office visits which you basically must pay yourself.

Once you are eligible for Medicare then most office visits are covered by Aetna Medicare.

Shy Supplemental Trust

Mike Lacour ( he replaced Art Shy when Art retired) who now represents us on the Supplemental Trust board called and reported the Supplemental is still in good shape and has $697 million even the stock market hasn’t been all that great for some time now. The Trust Fund is projected to cover us until approximately the year 2040.

What does the Supplemental Trust do?

  • Our deductible remains at $200.00 per year, the Supplemental Trust is paying the additional amount which is over 100% of the amount we pay.
  • Our monthly Health care premiums ($ 50 for non-Medicare and $ 25 for Medicare participants) would be more than 125% higher if the Trust was not paying that additional amount for us.
  • Drug Co-pays would be 50% -75% higher if the Trust was not paying the additional amounts.
  • Comprehensive Dental coverage is provided by the Supplemental Trust.
  • Comprehensive Vision coverage is provided by the Supplemental Trust.
  • Hearing Aid coverage is provided by the Supplemental Trust.
  • Increased Life Insurance is continued by the Supplemental Trust. (1992-1993 amounts with a maximum of $10,000.00)

  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment increases continued By the Supplemental Trust
