Retiree Luncheon:

The May 7th Chapter 305 and 2911 Retiree Chapter Luncheon held @ the Legion Hall on St. Joe Rd. was well attended.  We had 90 who signed up to attend.

13 people who paid their $5.00 for the luncheon did not show up. This was very unusual, we always have 1 or 2 who don’t show for one reason or another .While this doesn’t appear on the surface to be a problem since they paid their $5.00, and it really is because the Chapters must pay the balance for those dinners. (about $4.50 each). And we are trying to preserve every penny we can so our Chapters can continue.

Our guest speaker was R. Dean Swihart, a Fort Wayne attorney who belongs to our Hyatt Legal Plan. Dean gave a very interesting talk about wills and many other legal matters of interest. He also had a question and answer period where many questions were answered. We had many compliments among those in attendance.

Retiree Dues:

At this time we would like to again encourage those of you who don’t pay Retiree dues to consider starting.

These dues are voluntary and we realize some of you simply can’t afford to have $2.00 taken out of your check and we don’t expect you to if you can’t afford it. However, there are many who can afford it that do not pay their $2.00 per month. Of the $2.00 monthly dues 35% ( $ .70 ) goes to our local chapter.

This also pays for our retiree bulletins.

The remainder goes to the International Union. 40% to the UAW International Retired Workers Fund in Detroit and 25% to UAW Region 3 Retired Workers Fund.

The International Retired Workers Fund has been a very effective tool that the UAW has used to save our Retiree benefits in court many times in the past 16 or more years.

The International Retired Workers Fund has spent millions of dollars over the past 15 years defending our Retiree Benefits in court. For us, International Truck retirees, this is called the Shy agreement.

The Region 3 Retired Workers fund has also been used to defend our Retiree benefits in court that we earned over the years. Region 3 also supplements the Annual Retiree Black Lake, and many other retiree functions in the state.

If you are the Retiree and not paying dues, you can fill out the card at the bottom of this bulletin and have the dues deducted from your International Truck Retiree check every month.
